RIP Zaha Hadid

On March 31st, the whole world grieved at the devastating loss of the Pritzker Prize- winning Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. Her death news was followed by a bombardment in social media.

In an interview about his friendship with Zaha, Koolhaas emphasized the fact that Zaha’s birth and early life in Baghdad was hugely important to her work, and that he found it strange that her obituaries had described her as a British architect, rather than an Arabic one. For full interview, click here.

"I see her work not necessarily as an exciting form of Western architecture and a development of Western architecture, but really something fundamentally different," he said. "That is what I think may be her biggest achievement." Rem Koolhas.

"Zaha brought a special set of sensibilities to design that made her work iconic be it architecture or shoes or jewellery. I have memories of the many sharp conversations we had with Koolhaas and Jencks on the fallacies and beauty of architecture - I will miss her impact on all of us." Cecil Balmond.

Rest in Peace Zaha. You will never be forgotten.
